Commonly used types of glass when manufacturing double glazing are:
Float glass: This is the most common type of glass used in making insulated glass. This is a glass sheet produced by floating molten glass over a bed of molten metal, usually tin. Float glass is known for its smooth surface and excellent optical clarity.
Low-E glass: Low-E glass is a glass with a thin metallic coating on the surface. This coating helps reflect heat back into the room, making insulated glass units more energy efficient. Low-E glass is often used in double-glazed windows for added insulation.
Tempered glass: Also known as safety glass, tempered glass is heat or chemically treated to increase its strength and make it less likely to break. Tempered glass is often used in the production of insulating glass as it provides greater safety and security.
Laminated glass: Laminated glass is made of multiple layers of glass bonded by an intermediate layer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). This type of glass is known for its strength, durability, and safety. Laminated glass is often used in insulated glass units to add security and sound insulation.
Colored Glass: Colored glass is made by adding small amounts of metal oxides to the glass melt during the manufacturing process. This gives the glass a tinted appearance, which helps reduce glare and control the amount of sunlight entering the building. Tinted glass is often used in insulated glass units to improve solar control and energy efficiency.
